Lost in Translation

e-Boredom. Its that time when youre loading, installing, or reformatting and you just feel the need to multitask.

My friend told me to get a Tweeter account. I said “what the fuck for? Ive facebook, a blog, and gmail and this google+ thingy that google is shoving down our throats”… “oh and I still have multiply and friendster”

Have you been to friendster lately? weird… game nalang siya ngayon.. and my account has been rehashed, my avatar and profile pic know closely resembles those chibbi mememons

“Okay yan tweeter, you can tweet what you feel, tapos cryptic message patama pa” my friend said

“Why should the world know how I feel?”

“Kapag may patatamain ako, “pakyou” txt ko nalang sya..

Anyway so I got into twitter. I must say Im new to this hashtags and ampersand (@) “at” signs doesnt look like glitch but actually accentuates what you say. Interesting.

You know what else is interesting.. playing with the SEARCH function… !~

After following celebrities and celebrity DJs, Musicians… which I now find boring. My DJ friends Tweets are a lot more interesting than most.

You know what else is interesting.. playing with the SEARCH function… !~ and typing the word “pek pek”

Im not sure where youre from, but in our tagalog language, its a slang translation for Vagina.  Allow me if you will to take out into context of Anatomical and clinical definitions and kindly place the green and bastos cap on…

For your entertainment read on  what’s trending on Twitter’s PekPek

And the following tweet makes the photo say a thousand words

American Idol 2012..” Dim the lights here.. we go..”

Photo credits in Facebook shared by Carla Abaya from Joey Henson

“Dim the lights..here we go…”

So the nation, the Philippines at least where “American” Idol put most on hold.. awaiting for the results. Those that were still ranting on the CJ trial momentarily focused on this,  my tropa friends who have recently hibernated and probably left their kids, wives, and girlfriends for Diablo3, and mommies, and yaya’s who have failed to pick up their alagas and panggas at school to watch American Idol.

From the start I, among millions of fans and most in the music industry would have to agree, that Jessica Sanchez has an amazing technical ability and truly a God given talent in singing. Being half mexican and half filipino, she could be the first singer to actually sing 2 national anthems in a Manny Pacquiao Vs __(place mexican boxer name here)__  .

Why o why? how could she lose? is it because she was homeschooled and didnt have a tad many classmates..  Or didnt she fit the bill of what at an “American” is? We’re all entitled to our own opinion.  Hold the comments haters, Im not reading yours…

While watching the AI results episode, I was totally blown away by the song number of Ms. Jennifer Holiday duet with Jessica Sanchez.. you can watch this amazing performance here.. (spoof ofcourse is the pic above..hehehe)

Oh ha… so after watching this.. nagsisisi na sila na hindi nila binoto si Jessica Sanchez
We all can agree, this sweet little girl truly has inspired so many of us and makes us Filipino proud. Regardless if she won or not, she is definitely bound for stardom.

Anson’s “Extreme” Run: Road + a twist of Vertical Run

Its going to be a shame if you call yourself a runner and not support (or celebrate your running to ) any of the 8, yes 8 races happening just for this coming sunday alone May 27. One of the most interesting would have to be Anson’s Fun in the Sun. Why? The new twist in this run is that runners in the 10k and 16k category get to do an “extreme” feat of vertical running in a McKinley Hill parking building constituting to about 3.84Km. Thats definitely fun under the sun! To cool you off in your run there are going to be sponge stations for the 10k and 16k category.

Im sure awarding ceremony is going to be packed as usual with the prizes galore thats going to be raffled off in the run.  I got to chat with Ansons Business Development Manager Joy Ng and Corporate Officer Marlon Magnait. They said that the 2nd year of Ansons Fun in the Sun will have full support of their sponsor appliance brands as well, making the  run truly more fun in the sun this fiesta season. Speaking of fiesta, the run is going to have a fiesta theme with “till supply lasts fiesta freebies like bibingka, taho, dirty icecream”.

I enjoyed my chat with Ms. Joy because being in the family business I asked her a bit of history of Ansons.  I thought Ansons was derived from am english name or of anglo saxon descent, it so happens that Ansons  was derived from Fookien which translates to “Everything flows smoothly”.

Ansons started in the 1960’s as one of the leading department store’s in Binondo. Most popular during the time I grew up is  the old Anson’s Department Store building in makati, built in the early 70s. During that time, and into the 80s and early 90s, Anson’s was once a major department store in league with the nearby Rustan’s, SM, Syvel’s (until 1988), and (beginning in 1989) Landmark Department Stores. By around 1994-95, however, the Anson’s has focused on appliance and electronics retailing.

Ansons is close to my heart because as a child. Sundays is fun time with the family and we didnt have so many malls to choose from back then and seeing the Ansons logo, aside from COD, SM and Rustans puts a smile in my face. For those residing or commuting along makati Its illuminated neon sign – once a big highlight in its 70s-80s heyday – used to light up at night.

The new and better Ansons now has 10 branches spread out in the metro. Ms. Joy says that what sets Ansons apart from other Appliance retailers is the service level of their staff. The staffs knowledge in product and equipment. Notice also that in all Ansons stores, it is very spacious and conducive to just lounge around and window shop and on splurge occassions for me, actually shop!

Ansons is close to my heart as it is brought me smiles when I was a kid, I look forward to running this sunday, surely Ansons is going to bring that childlike smile back to my face.

Through a Runner’s Lens: Rodel Argo

I get to see the photo of my friends and colleagues in the running community through facebook. Most of them and runners celebrating their races and runs. I was taken aback the morning of this writing when I was moved by a certain photo by a friend, Rodel Argo. It was a photo that immediately stirred emotion and it just matched my mood today, making the rest of my day even better.

When I looked at the other photos, they were all equally stunning and later I learned about Rodel Argo’s artistry as a Photographer in his blog http://argonautquest.wordpress.com/ . Which inspired me to blog about a series amazing photos by my friends and running friends which I call Through a Runner’s Lens…

The photos here were taken in Bohol, Philippines in the event Bohol 50 Miler Ultramarathon. To photographers, some of the best photographs are those that are not planned, but rather unexpected, and dictated by the heart as to when and what to capture at that point in time. These are the photos Im raving about:

The way this photo post process played on brightness, shadow n highlights, and saturation.. gave it a serene balance. I feel as the viewer of this photo..it takes you into your own personal zen.. It tells you more than just a sceneic “paint on the wall” landscape but with an animated story behind it as well. The saturation emphasized the texture of the shallow wate, flora and skyline.

This next photo is something one could have easily grabbed from a travel book. The elements of color in this beach theme is just engaging for one to go to THAT beach pronto. Solitude, we so look forward to it.

Knowing the backstory makes photos more interesting. I know for a fact that Rodel was there in a race, im not sure if it was taken during the race or after. The time element of this photo is evident, nearing dusk and the beauty and serenity of bohol is but captured in this photo.

Im sure this blog will not do justice with the wealth of amazing photographs Rodel has taken. This is just a glimpse and I leave it up to you, the reader to check out his other photographs.

Rodel Argo is “as he would describe himself” a Professional Chemical Engineer, Amateur Photogarpher, Self Proclaimed Athlete, Trying hard Mountaineer and a Certified Lakwatsero. He’s an ultramarathoner who have done races from 3k to 160k with above average times. You can see his works in his blog at http://www.argonautquest.wordpress.com and photo portfolio at flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/argonautquest/

Market Reaction on Facebook IPO

Facebook Inc priced its initial public offering at $38 a share, giving the world’s No. 1 online social network a $104 billion valuation in the third largest offering in U.S. history. So for some who could just afford a “share” or two, lets look at some probable market reaction…

Milo Apex Running School 2012 BGC and QC

I had the privilege of checking out the opening of Milo Apex Running School for 2012 last May 8 at BGC. I briefly spoke to Coach Jim Saret about the Milo Apex Running School way before and he emphasizes a scientific approach to train in running.  He doesnt just focus on getting to train and condition the runners for mileage, but he has a scientific approach that includes strengthening and flexibility exercises as well.

Milo Apex’s Tonette Dimaguila presented that day, and explained that the Milo Apex Running School has different categories and levels for the participants. They are as follows:

5k Group (for beginners / newbies)
10k Beginners (for beginning 10k runners)
21k Beginner (for beginning 21k runners)
10k Advance (for those who have been running 10K)
21k Advance (for serious 21k runners)
42k Group (for those who are ready to run the marathon)

The coaches for each group were also presented and introduced. As Ms. Tonette was introducing the coaches I couldnt help but be starstruck with the roster of coaches they have. Having been host to several running events, I get to see these elite athletes as I get to award the prizes to these podium placers:

After the introduction of the coaches, they discussed the three (3) levels in their training program, namely
Level 1 – Injury prevention

Level 2 – Strength and conditioning

Level 3 – Speed and power

After which the participants were split into groups with their respective coaches.

The schedule of the Milo Apex Running School is as follows:
May 9 to July 21 (3 months)
Tuesday and Thursday – 6pm to 8 pm and Saturday 6 am to 8 am
Quezon City Memorial Circle
May 10 – July 21 (3 months)
Monday and Wednesday – 6pm to 8pm and Saturday 6 am to 8 am

Jollibee inlcuded in World’s Top Fast Food by Yahoo Travel!

I just love the bee in Jollibee! who wouldnt? Since my first taste of that sumptuous burger back in the 80s in Greenhills Virra Mall branch.. I was a fan. I do however miss Big Daddy’s shrimp and fish chips fast food. Orange Julius hot dogs and shakes.

Im sure almost every filipino family has at one time bonded at Jollybee. This time its a proud filipino brand that is making waves all around the globe. Pinoy domination…  (insert big evil laugh here) is right on track!

Here is the screen cap of the article. You can read more on the article at http://travel.yahoo.com/ideas/best-fast-food-chains-in-the-world.html?

7-Eleven Tour 700 May 13, 2012 Reminders on Race day

Me and my wife Joyce are all set and getting ready for race day tomorrow May 13, 2012 o 7-Eleven Tour 700 which also happens to be Mothers Day! Its going to be our first RoadBike race together. I think its going to be more like a fun ride. Here are some reminders on Race day tomorrow , info from http://www.tour711.com/   For Race BIB and Sticker placement be aware of the following:

Parking at the Venue is as follows and be at the race venue 45 minutes before your start time.

And sadly.. we have to observe the following cut-off times, particularly for those riding 100Km.  To be sure, you may opt to place USED RUBBER/TIRE TUBING at the rear end area of the frame to protect your bike from probable scratches should your bike be boarded on the truck and be placed tight beside other bikes.

Other tips as provided by the race organizer..

  1. Do not ride faster than your ability.
  2. Keep a safe distance between you and other riders to prevent crashes.
  3. Remember to stop for hydration. There will be a hydration station every 10km.

My personal tip…

1) Get enough rest. Arrive Early. Have a checklist before leaving manila.
2) Bring stuff you need, TOOLS, extra tubes, Vaseline, sunblock, air pump, money, charged cellphone with load, camera with memory card and battery.

3) Last minute bike check. Is everything tightened FIT TO you? For now, dont let anyone ride your bike after making your final adjustments.

4 ) For the Multisport athletes out there,.. remember NO AEROBARS. For the roadies out there, not everyone are hardcore riders, and are not even used to close peleton formations, hand signals or even basic road bike courtesy / protocol.

5) If its your first time to wear cleats. Forget about it. Stick to regular shoes.  If you bought anything new to your bike which will change the way you ride. Forget about it, stick to whats predictable.

6) Just enjoy your race and stay safe always. Keep distance.. Be courteous, if you should brake, veer to side brake slowly and look and be aware at all sides.

Have a safe race everyone! Godspeed!

STAY HEALTHY. LIVE FULLY!

As we get older, our bodily functions begin to slow down. One such change occurs in our digestive tract. Due to this change, our body’s ability to absorb nutrients decreases. This is why despite a healthy diet, exercise and vitamin supplementation, we may still get tired easily.

Ensure is an adult nutritional supplement with FOS (Fructooligosaccharides), a prebiotic soluble fiber, clinically proven to increase absorbtion of nutrients. FOS also supports the growth of good bacteria in the digestive system which plays an important role in immune function.

STAY HEALTHY BOTH WAYS! by taking in Ensure and by joining the race!
